The Prophecy of Caiphas
he Prophecy of Caiaphas
John 11:46-53 But some of them went their ways to the Pharisees, and told them what things Jesus had done. Then gathered the chief priests and the Pharisees a council, and said, What do we? for this man doeth many miracles. If we let him thus alone, all men will believe on him: and the Romans shall come and take away both our place and nation. And one of them, named Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year, said unto them, Ye know nothing at all, Nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not. And this spake he not of himself: but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for that nation; And not for that nation only, but that also he should gather together in one the children of God that were scattered abroad. Then from that day forth they took counsel together for to put him to death.
As one man said that even a blind dog can find a bone once in a while… I do believe this is more than a chance occurance….. there is something special about this pronouncement that went beyond the speaker….
Things he had to IGNORE:
The Changing POWER OF JESUS
The Testimony of those who had heard Him and believed
The Power of God over the affairs of man
The OFFICE of the HIGH PRIEST
He BELIEVED IN GOD
Romans 10:1-3 Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved. For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.
He was in a position to SERVE GOD in the temple and in the leadership of God’s chosen nation
God spoke through the OFFICE of the High priest and not the man.
He prophesied UNWITTINGLY
Without actually knowing he was making a prophecy….. and yet it was
He Prophesied UNKNOWINGLY
Without understanding the NATURE of the content of the prophecy….
He thought it was AGAINST Christ, yet it was FOR Christ.
Seeing it God’s Way requires
HUMILITY
SUBMISSION
To reject SELF-INTEREST
To reject POPULAR PHILOSOPHY
BELIEF IN CHRIST
BELIEF in the WORD OF GOD
Many who claim to follow the Lord have the same problem
They Claim his name but refuse HIS WORD
They claim his person but deny HIS SON….
His Changing Power
The Testimony of those who follow Him
The Power of God over the affairs of men
